A church was built and dedicated on December 5, 1875 to Our Lady Help of Christians. The new church was served by All Saints Parish, Strathroy. Watford ceased to be a mission of Strathroy in 1928 when it was elevated to parish status. In 1942, Our Lady Help of Christians Parish reverted to mission status and was attached to St. Matthew Parish, Alvinston. Then in 1956, Our Lady Help of Christians became a parish, once again. In 1969, Watford and Alvinston were clustered and served by one priest. Our Lady Help of Christians Parish absorbed the boundaries of St. Matthew Parish, Alvinston when it was canonically suppressed in 2005.
